Kate: The Sleeping Machine!

About 3 weeks ago, nights in the Weiland household took on a dramatic change. We haven't posted about this, likely because we were probably too nervous about jinxing our recent fortune.

Anyway, the day after Kate turned three months old Shelly and I woke up in the morning to a perplexing situation. Kate's bedtime is usually right around 8:00 or shortly before, and the night before was no exception. The following morning at 5:30 AM, I woke up and took a look at the alarm clock. Realizing I hadn't gotten up with Kate last night, I turned to Shelly and asked if she had gotten up with her because at this point we were accustomed to getting up roughly twice per night. Shelly thought for a moment and stated that she hadn't gotten up with her and assumed I had. I reassured her that I didn't and the two of us both got a worried look on our faces before hopping out of bed quickly to go check on her. We got into her nursery and sure enough, there she was just sleeping away....content as can be!

We were so thrilled for her and excited for us! Going from 3-4 hours to 9-1/2 hours overnight was unbelievable! While we knew this was likely an exception rather than the rule given she hadn't slept through the night before, we were still quite happy. Well, the next night rolled around and sure enough, Kate slept for another 9 hours. The following night she slept for 10-1/2, followed by 11 the next night! Since that first night, we've only gotten up with her once during the middle of the night and she's continuing to sleep anywhere between 8-11 hours every night.

It sure was amazing how I felt 3-4 days after getting full-night's sleep. I completely forgot what it felt like to actually be....rested. So this post is a shout-out to our little Sleeping Machine! Thanks so much Kate...we love you!

Bay Beach!

A couple of weeks ago, my Dad and I took Kate, my niece and nephew to Bay Beach. If you're not from this area, Bay Beach is a little amusement park located right next door to the bay of Green Bay. It features a ferris wheel, bumper cars, kid's rides and a train that takes you around the park and along the bay. It's a great place to take kids for entertainment and it's also light on the wallet as each ticket costs a mere 25 cents.

Brooke and Charlie had a great time "driving" the boats and cars and riding on the merry-go-round. Brooke and I also got enough courage to go down a relatively steep slide that required us to sit on potato sacks. Needless to say, I think I was more scared than she was! Enjoy these pics of our wonderful day!

Watch out Mom & Dad - we'll be 16 in no time!

Keep your eyes on the road!

Way to keep your hands at 10 & 2, Brookie! You're a pro!

Even Choo Choo is getting into it!

Welcome Anna Rae!

John and I would also like to extend a congratulations to our other dear friends, Bob and Mel. They welcomed a beautiful baby girl on July 29th. Anna Rae weighed in at 7 pounds even and was 19.5 inches long.

We were so fortunate to visit the new family while they were still in the hospital. John and I were able to hold precious baby Anna and we both agreed that she felt as light as a feather. It is amazing to think that at one time Kate was that little - and she's only 3 months old! It just goes to show you how fast time passes and to cherish each and every moment.

We are so excited for Bob and Mel and also thrilled to report that everyone is happy and healthy. They are another couple whom John and I call lifelong friends. We look forward to many more gatherings and many play dates in the future!

Congrats Mr. & Mrs. Knueppel!

John and I would once again like to extend a congratulations to our great friends, Aaron and Cassy. They were united in marriage on July 25th in Elkhart Lake. The wedding, reception and weather were absolutely beautiful and the bride and groom looked stunning.

You may recall that Aaron was a groomsmen in our wedding and now John had the pleasure of standing up in his. We've known Aaron since college and have been so fortunate to get to know his new wife the past couple of years throughout their relationship. They are so great together and we are so blessed to have such wonderful friends like them. It's with such ease that I can say that they will be our friends for life! Enjoy a couple of pics from their big day (and Kate's first wedding!)!

Who Did That?

The 10:30 mass today at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton was a little more eventful than usual. We just got a new priest due to the retirement of Fr. Jim and the bishop was present to officially welcome him to his new parish.

With the hype of the new priest and the presence of the bishop, Kate felt as though we weren't paying enough attention to her. To make her presence known, she decided to let out the loudest burp known to mankind. Of course she didn't do it while we were singing or saying the "Our Father" - she waited for the perfect moment when the congregation was completely silent. John and I (and parish members surrounding us) erupted in laughter and we watched as heads turned from pews ahead of us to get a glimpse of the culprit.

As if that wasn't enough, she decided to let out another "bubbly" burp later in mass that was followed by some lovely spit up. At the time of that burp, I was holding her so she was facing the individuals in the pew behind us. I saw the young girl sitting behind me jump back as she feared that she may be doused in spit up, but fortunately it landed on the burp cloth and continued to dribble down her chin.

She continued to entertain us as it came time to bless our new priest. The congregation was asked to extend their hand for the blessing and from a deep sleep, Kate raised her right hand for about five seconds. Even when she's sleeping, she knows how to make us laugh.

While our little lady didn't act the most lady-like in mass today, she did receive a blessing from the bishop as she went up to communion with dad. How special!

Happy Belated Birthday, Mimi and Grandpa Burch!

So we're a little late in posting this, but we wanted to officially wish Mimi and Grandpa Burch a happy belated birthday on our blog. Deb celebrated her birthday on July 26th while my dad celebrated his a week later on August 2nd. I'll leave it to you to guess how old they are. :)

We had a wonderful dinner at the Joe and Deb Weiland household for Deb's birthday. It was a great evening filled with terrific food, good company and a little "Bachelorette". The dinner was so good that we had to wait a week to eat her birthday cake. Don't worry, Dad - I had a piece in honor of you. :)

Here are a few pics of our little munchkin honoring the birthday boy and girl!

Kate is not pleased that Mimi is turning another year older.

Kate is also unsure of Grandpa's birthday, but loves him anyway.

Check back soon for more celebration news including a beautiful wedding and the arrival of Kate's BFF!
